Q: How old should my child be for their first dental appointment?

A: The general rule is “first visit by first birthday”. We recommend seeing a dentist when your child gets their first tooth. First visits are very relaxed and the checkup will match your child’s receptiveness. If they are interested, we may do a fluoride treatment and take a look at their teeth for any obvious problems. If they are uncomfortable, we can just talk about proper brushing, diet and bottle/pacifier use, and answer any questions you have while they sit in the chair with you and get used to the environment.

Q: Do you offer sealants for children’s teeth? What are the benefits?

A: We do administer sealants to help prevent cavities in children’s teeth. Sealants are lightly shaded plastic that is applied to the molars, filling in the grooves to shut out food particles that could get caught there and are hard to brush. They are fast to apply and comfortable, protecting the teeth for years.
